Lawmakers in Plateau state have reportedly fight for mace over the impeachment of the speaker, Hon. Abok Ayuba Nuhu on Thursday.
Information made available to DAILY GIST on Thursday revealed that 16 out of the 24 lawmakers voted in favour of the impeachment.
The plot to remove the speaker, it was gathered began about a week ago as the speaker and the state governor, Simon Lalong have been at loggerheads. Their quarrel began after an attack in Yelwan Zagam, the community of Jos North, where people were killed.
The speaker has since started criticising the governor openly.
However, on Thursday morning, the house of assembly members converged at the chamber of the house to initiate the Impeachment process of the speaker.
PDP members, who were loyal to the speaker, took the mace to prevent the impeachment.
But the APC members, who were in the majority, impeachment, dragged the mace and placed it in its position, and went ahead with the process.
The entire house of assembly complex was surrounded by Joint security operatives.
