This is because these polytechnics have distinguished themselves as fountain of knowledge and symbol of academic excellence. It’s noteworthy that for so many years, some graduates from polytechnics have proven their mettle and performed better and smarter than many of their counterpart in the universities.

To this end, it’s instructive to note that these polytechnics have entry requirements and cut-off marks for anybody interested in applying for National Diploma or Higher National Diploma in the various institutions.

1. Yaba College of Technology(YABATECH): This is the oldest higher institution in the history of Nigeria. Being the oldest has some advantages because it has placed it on the number one spot in the ranking of the top best Polytechnic in Nigeria. Yabatech as it is popularly called was established in the year 1947. Although, it was changed to Federal Polytechnic, Yaba in the year 1979, it was later renamed to its current name in the year 1980. Yabatech has a mission statement which is to produce knowledgeable and innovative graduates worthy in skill and character through effective teaching, learning and research for the technological advancement of Nigeria. Yabatech is located in Yaba, Lagos state of Nigeria. Yabatech offers different courses for the Ordinay National Diploma (OND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) to people who have their requirements. The following courses are being taken in yabatech: Accountancy, Mass communication, Public administration etc

2.Auchi Polytechnic. This is located in Auchi in Edo State. While it was formally established in the year, 1963; Auchi Polytechnic is generally seen as the British gift to the Midwestern region of the federal republic of Nigeria. It has over twelve thousand students enrollment and the graduates of Auchi Polytechnic have gone ahead to make reasonable impacts and innovations in their chosen vocation and endeavors. The reason for this milestone achievements and development could be because of the motto of the school which is all about training hands and brains for development. Auchi Polytechnic offers different courses ranging from Environmental to Arts courses.

3. Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. This is also one of the topmost polytechnics in Nigeria. It was established in 25 July, 1979 and began operation and academic activities in November of the same year. The federal Polytechnic Ilaro was located in the western region of the country, Ogun state of Nigeria to be precise. Ilaro is a town in Ogun state with borders with Lagos state. It covers a large expanse of land and a teeming population of students. It offers ND and HND programs. Federal Polytechnic Ilaro has the motto of technology for development.

4. Federal Polytechnic, Nekede. This institution is located in Imo state. It was founded in a bid to raise trained and skilled manpower which is pivotal to the technological and industrial development of the country. Federal Polytechnic Nekede has been recognized by relevant regulatory bodies including the National Board for Technical Education (NABTEB). The institution has a high number of intake of students, especially from the south-east. It offers the following courses:

5. Federal Polytechnic, Oko. This is a federal government-owned institution located in Oko in Orumba South local government of Nigeria. Federal polytechnic Oko is among the foremost polytechnic in Nigeria. It has three campuses in the state occupying large hectares of land. The environs of the polytechnic is student- friendly as it has tight security and good learning environment. It offers different courses for which are:

6 Imo state Polytechnic, Umuagwo. This is located in Umuagwo in Imo state. It’s a State government- institution but with a high standard of teaching and learning. Imo state Polytechnic ranks among the best Polytechnic in the country Nigeria.

7. The polytechnic, Ibadan. This polytechnic is located in Ibadan. It has over ten thousand students enrollment. It has a serene environment and good learning facilities. The polytechnic, Ibadan is one of the best Polytechnic in the southwestern part of Nigeria. It offers a lot of courses including Arts and design, architectural technology etc.

8. Institute of management and technology. This institution is popularly known as IMT Enugu. It is located in the heart of the coal city. It has been ranked the best Polytechnic in the state and one of the best in the entire Southeast. IMT offers several courses ranging from management courses such as Mass Communication, Business Administration to technological courses such Estates management, welding and fabrication etc.

9. Osun state Polytechnic. This is a state government-owned polytechnic. It’s located in Osun state. It admits over five thousand students each year. Osun polytechnic is unarguably the best Polytechnic in Osun state and one of the best in the southwestern region of Nigeria.

10. Lagos state Polytechnic. This polytechnic is located in Ikorodu, Lagos state Nigeria. It was founded in the year 1977. Its motto is mission and professionalism. It was formerly called college of science and technology before being renamed to its present name. It is popularly known as Laspotech. The Lagos state Polytechnic has a good workforce with staff numbering up to seven hundred and has a good learning environment.
