The recent clamour for measures to protect social media activities in Nigeria will change an average Nigeria lifestyle, social media have both positive and negative impacts

Any government uncertain on the positive effect of social media has on them may want to take a step in regulating the use of this device and technologies, living a life with restricted and regulating laws guiding what you post, how you post, how people feels about your post will not just affect the country but will make Nigeria far back to its ancestral lifestyle and draconian regime where there’s no internet access and people are subject to the pleasure of government.

Social media which is an interactive based devices that connect multiple people together at the same time, in sharing promoting ideas information careers interest and other form of expression through its electronic network devices.

Massive success, failures, have been recorded through the use of social media to an extent social media have generated damage to the societies but to a very large extent social media have cause much good than harm in our society.

Nigeria which is one of the populated country in African with its youth reaching the climax of 75:2% could be ready to live in the dark if social media is been regulated in the country, activities of government the actions inactions an decision of the government will be unnoticed in the country giving the government freedom to carry out their negativity

Nigerian is one of the top internet consumer according to the NNC index 2020, restricted measure if given to regulates the media space in the country could lead to negative change of the people mentality, the psychology of the people will gradually get reshaped an this could affect the minds and interest of the people from being at liberty to post any information they feel could better the state of the Nation, minds of Nigeria will be conditions to respect and never use the media space to criticise government actions.

Sec 39 (1)of the 1999 constitution of Nigerian provide for freedom of expression and many other laws and Acts of the country has given its people unlimited access to freedom of speech, expression as long as it doesn’t lead to defamations of person or character, this liberty to express yourself in Nigeria can as well be put into writing or be posted in any media space, this is however a fundamental right of the people enjoyed, which will be inconsistent if a law to regulates the social media should see the light of the day in its upper chamber, definitely this will affect the enjoyable right of the people which has ever been in existence for years.

GOVERNMENT’S GAIN, CITIZEN’S LOSS

The establishment of a bill to regulates social media space will be a massive boost to the ineffective government, the actions and inactions of government will be unnoticeable and social media which has been a medium of criticising the Nigeria government of its incapacity to live up to their responsibility and oath’s of office will die a natural death, the media has been a very tools by Nigerians and for every person on the world to awake and reawakened the sleeping government to its responsibilities in the nations, the present of media regulations will be an absence of criticisms of the government leading the country to a semi military era.

Notwithstanding the presence of the social media has cause much damages to Africa political office holders because of its negative remarks by its people these however should be a correction to them through its such criticism than being a means in silencing the people,

CONCLUSION

Attempt by the Nigeria government to regulate social media despite fervorous rejections from Nigerians will fall on Brimstone’s because social media is definitely not a means of crushing fake news in the country.
