A Nigerian human rights activist and anti-death penalty advocate Arthur Judah Angel, has been assassinated by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

According to reports, Arthur was killed in his country home in Edo state.

He was the President and founder of Life Wire International Foundation, who wrote: “I refused to die, a true life story of Divine Intervention on death row”.

Mr. Angel, who spent nine years on death row for a crime he did not commit in 1986, was tragically killed and buried in a shallow grave on Sunday.

His assailants also burned down his house after the assassination.

After being pardoned and released from prison, Angel dedicated himself to advocating against the death penalty in Nigeria.
