The Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University(OAU) Prof. Eyitope Ogunbodede has on Friday stormed the institution’s central mosque to mark the celebration of the ongoing 60th anniversary.

Other notable persons present are the University Registrar, Mrs Magret Omosule, The University spokesman, Abiodun Olarenwaju, Dean of students affairs, Prof. Aransi, The school provost, among others.

Speaking after the Jumat service, The vice chancellor urged students and staff of the University to thank God for his mercy over the Journey of the University so far, noting that nothing but prayers has helped the institution become what it’s today

He said that there was cause for the students and staffs to rejoice, celebrate and give thanks to God for the privilege to witness the Diamond Jubilee of the institution inaugurated on June 8, 1961.

He thanks all people who have significantly contributed to development of the University in his administration

Addressing students and staffs in the mosque, Ogunbodede speaks about the success of the University since it’s establishment. He said over the recent years, the University has achieved rapid growth and development, particularly in the areas of academic programmes, research, staff training, infrastructural development and staff/student welfare.

Ogunbodede also speaks about the history of vice Chancellor in the University. He noted that it’s very important to be patient as a vice Chancellor of the University

”You must not act by the virtue of the power that is given, so you have to be patient. You must know that people think and do things differently.”

The other thing you must introduce into your management style is the ability to recognise the values of other people.”

”The day I was pronounced vice-chancellor was a memorable moment in my life. This was on May 8, 2017, and the entire campus was agog, with people dancing and jubilating. I have never seen anything like that in my life.”

”To me, it is a memory that will never fade away, because we were actually getting off a crisis situation and when people are sad and do not know what the future holds, suddenly you are pronounced vice-chancellor and the whole place is agog. It is something I will forever be grateful for.”

Ogunbodede said over the years, this history has been that the vice chancellors in OAU are always sacked from office. He also thanked the Obafemi Awolowo University Muslim Graduates Association (UNIFEMGA) for their support in his administration.

During the visit, the management donated an undisclosed amount of money in an envelope to the mosque.

The Chief Imam of OAU Muslim Community, Professor Abubakr Sanusi in his speech calls on staffs and students to always fear God in whatever they do in Life.
