The micro-blogging site, Twitter has disclosed that it’s ready to meet the Nigerian government over possible reversal of the suspension of it’s operation in Nigeria.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, had announced that Twitter’s management is seeking a “high-level discussion” to resolve the issue that led to the suspension.
Confirming the federal government comment, Twitter took to its platform on Friday, saying, “Today marks one week since Twitter was blocked in Nigeria. We have informed the Nigerian government that we are ready to meet for an open discussion to address mutual concerns and see the service restored. We remain advocates for the free and #OpenInternet everywhere. #KeepitOn.”
Recall that the Lai Mohammed had on ordered all Telecoms to block Nigerians from accessing Twitter.
The presidency in a statement disclosed that the “temporary suspension” of Twitter’s operations in Nigeria is not only because Buhari’s post was deleted but part of efforts to prevent the “violent” consequences usually linked to the spread of fake news and misinformation.
