Popular Yoruba activist and freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho has written to the federal government over alleged illegal raid on his residence by the operatives of Department state securities (DSS)
DAILY GIST had reported how Ighoho’s house in Soka area of Ibadan, Oyo state was attacked around 1am on Thursday.
The Department of State Services(DSS) has confirmed that its responsible for the attack on Sunday Igboho’s house in the early hours of Thursday.
DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya disclosed this in a statement made available to Journalists on Friday morning.
According to Peter, The raid was based on intelligence that Igboho had allegedly stockpiled arms and ammunition in his house.
But Igboho in a statement released by his media aide, Koiki on Friday night said the weapons paraded by the DSS as recovered from his house did not belong to him.
Igboho noted that the guns found in his house were ‘government magic stating that he used traditional power to protect himself instead rather than guns.
The activist added that there was no prior invitation sent to him by the agency neither was any search warrant used by the officers who invaded his home.
According to him, the invasion at his house was an attempt by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to silence him so the killer-herdsmen, whom he always antagonized, will take over the South-West region.
However in a fresh statement made available to News Reporters on Sunday, a copy of which was sent to DAILY GIST, Sunday Igboho demanded N500million compensation for damage to his residence, cars and other properties by operatives of DSS.
This was contained in a letter sent to the Federal Government through Igboho’s counsel Chief Yomi Alliyu (SAN) which sought a public apology for what he called violation of his fundamental rights during the invasion of his Ibadan residence on Thursday by the DSS.
Igboho asked the federal government to probe the action of the security officials that conducted the raid.
Counsel to Igboho, Alliyu alleged that those arrested in Igboho’s house were being tortured to incriminate him that guns and ammunition were recovered from his house.
He pleaded with all Southwest governors that “know the yearnings of their people and Igboho’s large followership to wade in before it becomes hydra headed security problems in all their domains.”
”Sunday Igboho knew that he would be arrested one day hence retaining our services. He could not be that daft to keep incriminating articles in his house!
“Our client’s house is a 5 bedroom duplex with 5 chalets of 2 and 3 bedrooms. These were totally damaged with operatives allegedly arguing on whether to burn down the edifice as done to his former palatial house. The lady officer allegedly put her foot down against arson,” he said
the DSS carted away €1,000, N2m, expensive jewellery worth millions, travel documents, amulets, Igboho’s iPhone 12 and phones of about 15 others living in the house including those killed by the officers and other yet-to-be-identified belongings.
He added, “We hereby demand that the Federal Government orders an investigation into the actions of the various security operatives led by DSS that raided Chief Sunday Adeyemo’s house with a view to sanctioning them and release all the innocent people arrested and compensate the families of those murdered.
”Our client should also be paid N500m as reparation for damage to his exotic cars that include Mercedes Benz G-Class and 2019 Lexus Car. We also demand a public apology.’’
No demand to enter was made but rather they shot their way into the house allegedly killing seven people though DSS spokesman admitted killing two people which involved an old imam that used to lead Muslim occupants in prayers and observing Tahjud at the time of the barbaric raid. A lady among the invaders was allegedly shouting, “If you get him gun him down.”
He also alleged that the operatives were disappointed that they couldn’t allegedly find a single gun or ammunition in his client’s house, hence arrested two police escorts of Igboho’s guests and added their “guns to those harvested from their armoury to make members of the public to believe that our client keeps militia or as stated by them, he is about waging war on Nigeria. Will this be with his mere amulets? People who know our client of over 20 years will testify that Igboho Oosa does not carry gun on his person!’’
The lawyer further said that every Nigerian was aware that in Igboho’s open crusade for the creation of Oodua Republic, he always preached peace and warned his followers never to resort to violence.
He said, “He always said that It is God and alale” that will fight for Yoruba Nation. We can boldly say that as people who followed his campaign, but not necessarily supporting dismemberment of Nigeria, that no casualty has ever occurred wherever such rallies were carried out. This must have been done in more than 20 Yoruba towns and cities as at date.
