Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomosho have rejected the decision of Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde to rename the institution.
The SUG President, Anuoluwa Adeboye, and the Public Relations Officer, Gabriel Michael made this known in a statement obtained by DAILY GIST on Saturday.
DAILY GIST reported that the Oyo government had proposed that LAUTECH should be renamed as Ladoke Akintola University.
According to Makinde, the decision is aimed at making the institution more of a conventional university to offer courses like Law, Humanities among others in the university.
The state government revealed that it would forward a bill tagged “Ladoke Akintola University LAU” Amendment Bill to the Oyo State House of Assembly.
However the Students noted that renaming the institution would do more harm than good to its image.
The union also said changing the name of the institution would negatively affect the goodwill, saying the strength already gathered by the name could all be forgotten.
urged the governor to look inward and consider better recommendations on how the institution could progress.
