The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has declared former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello wanted over alleged fraud.

President Bola Tinubu-led administration had earlier directed the immediate-past governor of Kogi State Yahaya Bello, to follow the path of decency and submit himself for probe.

This was contained in a statement by the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi

The anti-graft agency in a statement issued on Thursday said Bello is wanted for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 billion.

The EFCC asked anybody with information as to his whereabout to report immediately to the Commission or the nearest Police Station.

The statement reads: “Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, is wanted by the EFCC for offences relating to economic and financial crimes to the tune of N80.2 Billion.

“Anybody with information as to his whereabout should report immediately to the Commission or the nearest Police Station.”

Operatives of the commission had on Wednesday laid siege to the home of Bello in Abuja in a bid to arrest him after obtaining a warrant arrest.

Earlier, DAILY GIST reported that the incumbent governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo had smuggled Yahaya Bello into his convoy when he visited him at his residence on Wednesday in Abuja

Pandemonium ensued when the governor prevented the arrest of his political god-gather, Yahaya Bello, at his residence from the anti-graft agency

Ododo had stormed the Bello’s Abuja home on Wednesday following a heavy security crackdown by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other security agencies in a bid to get the former governor arrested.

Following their failed mission to arrest Yahaya Bello, EFCC is considering using the Military to help arrest him for his arraignment in court.

Its understood that Bello is being protected by Usman Ododo who currently enjoys immunity as governor.

The EFCC however warned, that it is a criminal offence to obstruct its officers from carrying out their lawful duties and as such would no longer tolerate such actions again
