The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, for the first time has broken his silence on media reports announcing his separation from his wife, Queen Silekunola Naomi.
Ooni said the news reports circulating about his purported separation from his wife are “jokes”.
The monarch speaks himself in an exclusive interview with BBC Yoruba on Friday evening.
DAILY GIST reports that Queen Naomi in a statement on Thursday had announced her divorce from the monarch.
Naomi alleged the hypocrisy of the monarch, stating that Ooni’s public perception is different from his true character.
She said Ogunwusi has a picture he projects to the world and another one, which is his true self, adding that she had endured struggles in the marriage but could no longer bear it.
Naomi stated that she is no longer a slave to her thoughts of perfection.
She noted that her decision to move on was due to irreconcilable differences and not based on the decision of the monarch to marry another queen.
This is the third time Ooni’s marriage will reportedly crashed.
But speaking to BBC News Yoruba in an interview published on Friday evening, Ooni said: “Many of those circulating that news are jokers.”
“I heard so many things, but there is no problem here in my palace,” he added.
