Olanrewaju Omiyinka, a popular Nollywood actor, who is also known as Baba Ijesha, has been sentenced to jail
He was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and S$xual Offences Court on Thursday.
Baba Ijesha was convicted for s$xually assaulting a 14-year-old daughter of his colleague, actress and comedienne, Damilola Adekoya with a stage name Princess.
Baba Ijesha was charged on six count charge of child defilement that include indecent treatment of a child, s$xual assault, attempted s$xual assault by penetration and s$xual assault by penetration.
The offences contravened Section 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015, which stipulates life imprisonment for offenders.
Though the actor denied the allegations. A CCTV video recording detailing his relationship with the victim said to be a minor was played in court.
Delivering the judgement, Justice Taiwo said that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant is guilty of all the charges against him.
However, she found the defendant guilty of two of the six count charge against him
She sentenced him to 16 years in prison concurrently.
His 16-year jail term will run concurrently. This means that the movie actor will spend five years behind bars.
Mrs Taiwo, however, discharged and acquitted him of counts one and six, which were: s$xual assault by penetration and attempted s$xual assault by penetration.
Baba Ijesha was found guilty of indecent treatment and s$xual assault of a minor between 2013-2014.
The court said fhe prosecution successfully proved counts two and four; that he indecently placed her on his lap and rubbed his penis on her body.
He was also found guilty of four offences.
He was accused of again indecently touching the same minor and s$xually assaulting her seven years later by rubbing her body and sucking her fingers.
But the judge found him not guilty of count one, which is allegedly s$xually assaulting the minor by penetration with his car key seven years ago.
The court also found him not guilty of count 6, where he was accused of attempted s$xual assault by penetration during another encounter with the minor in April 2021.
