A high court in in Ibadan, Oyo state has delivered judgement on on the impeachment suit against Deputy Governor of the state, Rauf Olaniyan.

The House of Assembly, at the last plenary on July 6, directed the Chief Judge to set up a seven-man panel to investigate Olaniyan over allegations of gross misconduct.

Allegations raised against the deputy governor are gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office/official duty, insubordination and other offences.

The process of impeachment is apparently a sequel to the recent defection of the state deputy governor from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The deputy governor, who was represented by his counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN) had sued the House following the impeachment move against him after his defection from the PDP to APC.

The Director of Legal Services, O Olabanji, represented the Assembly in the matter.

However, Justice Ladiran Akintola in its ruling on Thursday dismissed the case filed by deputy governor Rauf Olaniyan over procedure to remove him from office by Oyo Assembly.

The court held that the lawmakers and all the defendants have not erred on the procedures taken.

While delivering judgement, Ladiran said that originating summons filed by the claimant was purely legislative procedure and not judicial in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
