The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba has denied receiving any request from federal bureau of investigation(FBI) to extradit the embattled Deputy commissioner of police, Abba Kyari.

Baba stated this while addressing newsmen at the Ministerial briefing, organized by the Presidential Communication Team, at the State House, Abuja.

It would be recalled that FBI had in July 2021 requested for the extradition of Kyari over the cop’s indictment in a $1.1million cyber fraud involving notorious internet fraudster, Abass Ramon, popularly known as ‘Hushppuppi’.

The indictment was made public by FBI, DAILY GIST had reported.

But on Thursday, the IGP said he is yet to receive any official statement requesting for Kyari’s extradition from the U.S based FBI.

IGP Alkali said the force has, however, received legal advice from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, on the next step to be taken on the matter.

In his words, “We are working on what to do next in terms of asking the officer to account for what we have gathered in the investigation and what we will do next.

“But as for extradition order, I have not received any, I’ve not heard of any. I’ve not heard about it formally but I have read on social media that there was an extradition request. I’ve not seen it, I’ve not heard it formally. That is one.

“Two. When this issue of Kyari started, we took our action by constituting a panel to look at the allegation that was made against the senior officer.

“The allegation was based on receiving gratification and also fraternizing with Hushpuppi and his group and even receiving some instructions and so forth.

“We looked into all these allegations by a committee that was set up chaired by a DIG, we submitted our report to the SGF for vetting and advice on the finding we have gotten from the investigation.”

On the security situation in the Southeast and Northwest, IGP Alkali said, the police is doing everything to improve on the current situation.

On the nationwide ENDSARS protest, the Police boss explained that the force lost over 18billion Naira to the protest, with over thirty thousand ammunition carted away.

He noted that over a thousand seven hundred and seventeen firearms have been recovered, and efforts are on to curb the proliferation of illicit firearms in the country.

He said the police is currently prosecuting over twenty thousand cases at different courts, with one thousand five hundred and seventy convictions already secured by the force’s legal department.
