The incumbent governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo, has reportedly whisked away the embattled former governor of the state, Yahaya Bello, from his Abuja residence.
Gunshots were heard when the governor allegedly prevented the arrest of his predecessor in office and political god-gather, Yahaya Bello, at the his residence on Wednesday.
Ododo had stormed the Bello’s Abuja home on Wednesday following a heavy security crackdown by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and other security agencies in a bid to get the former governor arrested.
Although the reason for the restricted movement in and around Bello’s house situated on Benghazi Street, Wuse Zone 4 could not be ascertained at the moment, it may not be unconnected to the allegation of N84bn money laundering earlier leveled against him.
Following the inability of the anti-graft agency to achieve their mission, they reinforced with backup support from the Police and Department of State Services (DSS) operatives.
However, as Governor Ododo was leaving Bello’s residence, the security operatives got the feelers that the former governor was in the governor’s vehicle, a development that prompted them to open fire.
According to report, an EFCC official was heard while speaking with his superior on the phone saying Bello was inside Ododo’s car that departed.
Shortly after Ododo departed from Bello’s residence, the EFCC personnel also left the house.
Earlier, the Federal High Court Sitting in Abuja granted the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) permission to arrest the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, preparatory to his arraignment on Thursday
Justice Emeka Nwite granted the warrant this afternoon at the instance of the EFCC.
This is as a Kogi State High Court in a conflicting ruling restrained the EFCC from arresting, detaining or prosecuting the ex-governor
