The President of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani has been elected as the new chairman of the African Union, AU for 2024.
Ghazouani takes over from President Azali Assoumani of the Union of Comoros, who was the Chairperson for 2023.
His selection took place on Saturday, February 17 during the ongoing 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
DAILY GIST reported earlier that the AU had also appointed President Bola Tinubu as the African Union, AU Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health.
Tinubu was appointed on the recommendation of the Committee of Heads of State and Government of Africa CDC.
