The Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN has placed several Nollywood actresses on watchlist over alleged r0mantic relationship with Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The AGN also suspended popular Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, indefinitely following a series of accusations linking her to “high-profile scandals”.
According to an internal memo released by the AGN on Friday, Abubakar was found guilty of engaging in defamatory activities that tarnished the reputations of key figures within the industry.
In July 2024, a controversial blogger mentioned Dakore Eguson, Ini Edo, and Nancy Isime among a list of female celebrities who are alleged to be ‘Side chicks’ of the Senate President.
The list includes Hilda Baci, Dakota Lawson, an emerging fashion star, and Wanneka, a hair vendor.
In a memo captioned INDEFINITE SUSPENSION- HALIMA ABUBAKAR, the AGN’s special investigative panel reportedly reviewed the matter and decided to suspend Abubakar.
The memo said allegations against Abubakar include spreading information about extramarital affairs between members of the guild, associates and its patrons.
It also noted that Abubakar will face the AGN’s National Disciplinary Committee to determine the full scope of her punishment, with immediate restrictions on her participation in any AGN-related activities or filming projects.
The memo reads: “Following the thorough investigative report by the special Secret Investigation Panel set up to conduct an internal underground secret investigation into the activities of some blogs/bloggers since 2022.
“After two years of painstaking investigations, the Panel found out that Miss Halima Abubakar was behind all the slandering information of our members, associates and patrons, especially news of extramarital affairs linked with highly placed individuals in the society emanating from the industry.
“Therefore, Halima Abubakar is hereby placed on indefinite suspension from the Actors Guild of Nigeria. She will face the National Disciplinary Committee to determine her full punishment.
During this period of her suspension, she is not permitted to participate in any AGN and or filming activities.”
“The National/State Chapter Taskforces have been duly mandated to monitor the compliance of the above order as violations of the suspension rules may lead to further disciplinary actions.”
Also, the memo indicated that some female members of the guild involved with political figures like Akpabio are under a secret watchlist.
“However, some female members on the watchlist are being investigated by the secret panel, especially in the recent release of names purported to have had dealings with the Senate President,” the memo added
