Three governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are currently in close door meeting with former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose and Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in Port Harcourt.
The governors – Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, had a closed door meeting with the Rivers governor, who narrowly lost out in the Peoples Democratic Party presidential primary a few weeks ago.
The details of the closed-door meeting is not yet known but it may not be unconnected with the 2023 presidential election.
The development may be connected with the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) resulting from the nomination of Atiku Abubakar as the candidate of the main opposition party for the 2023 presidential election.
The crisis worsened after Atiku rejected the recommendation of an ad hoc committee of the party and picked Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate.
Wike is expected to back his party’s candidate, Atiku Abubakar but speculations have emerged that the Rivers State Governor is unhappy after being passed over for the vice presidential ticket.
APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, was said to have met with Wike in France last week but the Tinubu media office has denied such a meeting ever took place.
