At least 17 countries has now been confirmed to qualify for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Following Saturday’s AFCON qualifiers, seven more countries have qualified for the 33rd edition of the showpiece tournament which is scheduled to take place between January and February 2022 in Cameroon.

Senegal, who meet Congo on Friday, were the first nation to qualify for the tournament back in November after registering four wins from their opening four group stage matches, scoring nine goals and conceding just once along the way.

Since then, 13 other nations have followed suit, including South Africa’s Group C rivals Ghana, who secured their passage to next year’s AFCON after playing out a 1-1 draw with Bafana Bafana on Thursday evening.

Elsewhere, it has been a fairytale campaign for Comoros and Gambia who have both qualified for Africa’s showpiece tournament for the first time. The former qualified from Group G ahead of Togo and Kenya, while the latter saw off competition from DR Congo and Angola.

Perennial title contenders Egypt have also secured their spot in Cameroon, alongside Tunisia, Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Gabon, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea and reigning champions Algeria.
