Pastors especially in Nigeria are known to make prophecies about countries and people as a new year emerges.
The year 2024 is gradually coming to an end with a myriad of unmet expectations, including those fueled by prophetic utterances, visions and prophecies by Christian clerics.
Without a doubt, it has now become a norm for prophets, pastors and other clerics to make bold assertions tagged prophecies at the end of a year or beginning of a new one regarding events that have yet to unfold.
Expectedly, the year 2024 was not short of such prophecies.
Nigerians are known to be very religious people. A report by Council on Foreign Relations noted that religion is central to the lives of most Nigerians, whether they self-identify as Christian or Muslim.
Particularly for the Christian citizens, many look forward to these prophecies which are customarily focused on politics, economy, natural disasters and general optimistic predictions about the future of religious adherents.
However, many of these prophecies made are not usually fulfilled, several pastors have been criticised by Nigerian netizens over their inability to foresee disasters awaiting them in the coming year.
The year 2024 was beclouded with a lot of uncertainty, ailments, deaths and hardship for many people.
Many Nigerian pastors made some prophecies in the early months of 2024 revealing what they claimed “God told them” will happen.
DAILY GIST highlights some of the failed 2024 prophecies.
1. PDP to win Edo governorship election 2024′
Prophet Chinonso Emmanuel tipped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for victory in the Edo state governorship election 2024.
Recall in the build-up to the 2020 Edo governorship election, Prophet Emmanuel, in 2019, declared that he saw the “oil of continuity on Godwin Obaseki’s head”.
At the time, Obaseki, the immediate past Edo governor, was seeking reelection to complete his constitutionally-allowed eight-year tenure.
Speaking in a now-distorted video posted on his known Facebook page, Prophet Emmanuel dashed the hope of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) with respect to the September 2024 election.
However, at the end of the voting, Monday Okpebholo, candidate of the APC, was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the winner of the election. Okpebholo triumphed with 291,667 votes to defeat his closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the PDP, who polled 247,274 votes.
2. Apostle Johnson Suleman On US Election
The cleric made a prophecy and said that he saw a woman as the next President of the United States. The reality however has proven these predictions wrong yet again.
Rather than a woman stepping into power, Donald Trump—certainly not female—is now surging in popularity as he reenters the political spotlight.
Harris, who is a woman was unsuccessful in her presidential bid.
3. Ease after the initial hardship for Nigerians
The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, gave a revelation of hard times for the citizens of the country in the year.
He, however, predicted that the situation would ease off after the initial hardship.
“Things will get worse before it gets better in 2024,” Adeboye had succinctly said.
But barely two weeks to the end of the year many Nigerians are yet to heave a sigh of relief from the economic hardship as predicted by the cleric
4. Prophet Boma’s failed prophecy on Edo 2024 election
Like Prophet Emmanuel, Prophet Abel Boma handed victory to the PDP. The prophecy turned out to be wrong.
Prophet Boma said in a video posted on his official YouTube page: “The governorship election of Edo state, PDP will continue. Who is that man that is leaving the seat (referring to Obaseki), the corruption will continue, abeg (sic).
5. Kamas Harris To Become US President
Apostle Chinyere on December 2022 predicted that US Vice President, Kamala Harris will win the 2024 US presidential election and emerge as the new President of America.
The Cleric known for his philanthropy had recently reiterated his prophecy and went ahead to even predict the cloth Harris will be hearing.
Few days to the US Election, Apostle Chinyere in a post on his social media post had expressed fears with indications that Donald Trump of the Republican Party was most likely to win. He further called on God to intervene; insisting that it was IMPOSSIBLE for Trump to win.
But with the outcome of the US Election, it is clear that the prophecy has failed.
