The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC has disclosed why the last-minute meeting called by the Nigerian government to avert the two-day nationwide protest ended in a deadlock.
NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero said the congress was tired of being taken for granted by the government.
According to him, “We are not doing rallies for the sake of moving around.”
Earlier, the Trade Union Congress (TUC), and the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) said it would not join the nationwide protest
The closed-door meeting which had the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), Ministers of Labour, Agric, Finance, Budget and Planning, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Head of Service, and representatives of the NLC and TUC ended in a deadlock.
Ajaero while briefing journalists on the outcome of the meeting, said, “We have concluded on that and the rally must go on.
“We are not doing rallies for the sake of moving around. We have demands which we must present at the National Assembly”.
Speaking on the security following warnings issued by the Department of State Service (DSS), Ajaero said, “It is the DSS’s constitutional responsibility to make sure that the rally is peaceful while we are going to try from our side to make sure it is peaceful.”
