A magistrate court has reportedly sentenced a Nigerian lady, identified as Jennifer to seven years in jail after she allegedly collected transport fare from a man, Emmanuel, but failed to honor her promise to visit him.
The ruling has sparked mixed reactions, while some hail it as justice against fraudulent relationship practices, others argue the punishment is too harsh for the offense.
The report, which surfaced on a popular social media platform, X (formerly Twitter), was accompanied by a video showing Jennifer inside the courtroom.
According to the information, Emmanuel had given Jennifer, N30,000 for transportation with the agreement that she would come to his house.
However, she allegedly spent the money without showing up.
Feeling cheated, Emmanuel filed a case against her, which eventually led to the court’s judgment an option of either paying ₦450,000 or serving seven years imprisonment.
