A serving Female Corps Member, who was assaulted and stripped by the operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State has broken her silence.
She narrated her ordeal in a detailed video, describing the incident as traumatic and unprovoked.
According to Jennifer, the assault occurred on 23rd July at about 5 p.m. at her lodge in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Her words, “My name is Edema Elowi Jennifer and this incident happened on the 23rd of July at about 5 p.m.
“Myself and my colleagues were in our lodge charging our phones when we heard a knock on the door.
“At first, we thought it was a neighbour, but before I got to the door, it was kicked open.
“On the other end stood a masked man with a gun, without any uniform or form of identification.
“At first, I thought he was an armed robber until he ordered us outside,” she recounted.
Jennifer explained that despite identifying themselves as corps members and offering their NYSC identification cards for verification, the operatives ignored them and began ransacking their room.
“They packed our laptops, our phones and everything. They became aggressive, asking what rights we had as corps members.
Even when we pleaded with them to call our proprietor or NYSC officials before taking us away, they ignored us,” she said.
The corps member alleged that the vigilante operatives dragged them downstairs, where they identified a vehicle marked with “Anambra Vigilante Group.”
According to her, she was beaten, nearly pushed down the staircase, and humiliated for questioning the operatives.
“They beat me, tore my clothes, and forced me into their vehicle. They pressed my neck, slapped me, and told us if we contacted anyone, they would smash our phones.
“Even my colleague who pleaded on my behalf was struck with an iron rod,” Jennifer added.
