A dramatic moment was unfolded in Rome during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the Vatican for the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV, as his son, Seyi Tinubu, was blocked by a Vatican security officer.
Seyi, who was part of the president’s official delegation, had attempted to move closer while his father exchanged pleasantries with the newly inaugurated Pontiff.
Dressed in a sleek black suit similar to the president’s, Seyi was seen walking toward the interaction area when a plain-clothed Vatican security official stepped in and blocked his path.
The video of the moment, now making the rounds online, triggered reactions across on social media
“What is Seyi Tinubu doing there?” and “In what capacity is the president’s son attending such a high-level diplomatic function?,” one user wrote.
An X user, @Vonapochi, said, “Seyi Tinubu has done it again, another national embarrassment on the world stage.
“At the Pope’s inauguration, while bishops and ministers followed protocol, Seyi forced his way to the front like an entitled child. He wasn’t on the official list, yet tried to shake the Pope’s hand and was blocked by security.”
Interestingly, hours later, another clip surfaced showing Seyi Tinubu dining with high-ranking officials of the Roman Catholic Church.
The trip to Vatican City also saw President Tinubu come face-to-face with one of his main political rivals, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election.
