The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja was temporarily shut as a cargo plane operated by Allied Air overshot the runway.
The aircraft reportedly experienced a tyre burst after the aircraft landed at the Abuja airport on Wednesday, December 11, 2204.
The aircraft is reportedly stuck near the runway after skidding off, forcing the airport to be shut pending when the plane would be towed.
DAILY GIST gathered that all the passengers were safely evacuated without injury.
A source at the NAIA, who spoke on the incident said, “We are still at the air side at the moment where the incident happened and efforts are ongoing to reopen the runway.”
The incident was said to have caused significant disruptions, with several departures delayed as authorities work to clear the affected runway.
However there were no injuries to the passengers even as emergency officials are on site.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the incident.
Information from the National Safety Investigation Bureau says the airport has now been reopened for business.
The Allied Air cargo plane crash-landed at the NAIA, following a failure in one of its landing gears, according to reports.
The aircraft, registered as 5N-JRT, made the emergency landing on Wednesday around 10:00 am, carrying six crew members.
“The crew members were promptly evacuated and are currently undergoing medical assessments at the 063 Nigerian Air Force (NAF) medical unit.
“Emergency responders acted swiftly to secure the crash site, cordoning off the area under the supervision of the Military Airport Commandant (MAC) and other relevant agencies.”
