A driver alleged to be the prime suspect in the murder of a lady found dead after entering a BRT bus has narrated how the missing lady was killed.
Late Oluwabamise Ayanwole was declared missing after boarding the BRT bus in Lagos.
DAILY GIST reported that the driver was arrested on Monday according to a release by Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu.
Speaking after his arrest, the driver said he was accosted by some gunmen who forced him to stop around Carter Bridge and forcefully took the lady away.
“I picked her from Chevron and I picked the other three guys at Agbegi, when those guys showed me the weapon as I was driving, I couldn’t be myself anymore.
”Fear came over me, so whatever they (the men with gun sitting beside me) asked me to do, I did,” he said.
“So when I followed that Carter Bridge, that overhead bridge, they told me to stop there. When they ordered me to stop, they asked me to open the door, when I opened the door, then they started dragging her.
”I saw her crying for help but I was helpless. When the issue happened, I ran away because I was afraid,” he said.
Ayanwole disappeared while returning to Ota from Ajah on February 26th when she boarded a BRT bus with number 240257 going to Oshodi at about 7pm at Chevron Bus-Stop.
While in the bus, Bamise felt uncomfortable as it did not pick any other passenger at subsequent bus stops. She quickly contacted a friend and expressed her worry.
Using whatsapp voice notes, Bamise revealed that the bus driver made an overture at her saying that he ‘liked’ her and asked for her name and other details. She told her friend to pray for her. She also sent a short video to her friend stating that there were 3 men and one woman in the bus.
The Police in an official statement on the matter, vowed to capture all those involved in the gruesome murder.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alabi, fdc, mnim, psc, is saddened by this incident and, therefore, expresses, on behalf of the management, officers and men of the command, his heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family.”
“Notwithstanding the death of Oluwabamise, the detectives handling the case would not rest on their oars until her killers are found.”
“We, therefore, assure the concerned public and the bereaved family that we are closing on on the culprits and we are sure that soon the suspects would be arrested and made to face justice for this murderous act.”, the statement read.
The police on Saturday had said they arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged kidnap but did not reveal their identities.
“In the course of the ongoing investigation, two suspects have been arrested and are currently helping in our investigation,” the statement reads.
“While assuring that police detectives will continue to work assiduously to find the missing lady and bring her abductors to justice, the Command wishes to appeal to anyone with useful information that could help in our investigation to promptly give it to us for further necessary actions.
How Bamishe’s body was found
According to social media reports, Bamishe’s abductors dropped her body by the roadside in the Ebute Ero area of Lagos Island.
Some of the commenters say she was “still breathing” when her body was found and some bystanders also tried to help her by pouring sachet water on her.
However, calls to take her to the hospital were shut down by some others who didn’t trust the offer.
