Dr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, a lecturer with Prince Abubakar Audu University, formerly Kogi State University, Anyigba, has allegedly died during an intimate affair with a 200-level student.
His death has thrown the higher institution of learning into mourning.
Reports circulating on social media said the male lecturer allegedly died in a hotel room during an intimate encounter with the 200-level female student.
The incident, said to have occurred during a private meeting at an undisclosed hotel in Anyigba.
According to report, the lecturer died in the heat of the moment while engaging in what has been described as “active bedroom service” with the female student. The yet-to-be-named student has reportedly been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.
An X user, Omooba Aramoko on his X Handle posted thus:
Kogi State University (Prince Abubakar University) is mourning one of it’s lecturer who died 3 days ago.
He died in a hotel room with a 200 level student during active bedroom service!
The Nigerian Police Force, Kogi state command has now confirmed the incident.
The police said the senior lecturer at Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU) in Anyigba area of the state, Dr Olabode Abimbola Ibikunle, died while allegedly having sexual affair with the female student.
Ibikunle death was reported by the 22-year-old 200-level student he was having sex with, Kogi Police Command Spokesperson, SP William Aya said while confirming the incident in Lokoja on Friday.
The student rushed to the reception to alert the staff that the lecturer had collapsed after their encounter.
Aya said the incident occurred on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at a hotel in Anyigba and was later reported to the police by the hotel manager.
The Police spokesperson described the incident as unfortunate and said an autopsy has been conducted to determine the cause of death.
