The Osun State University(UNIOSUN) has disclosed that one of its final year students Victor Oke, was set ablaze by some cultists for refusing to join the group.
Victor Oke until his untimely death was a student of political science department.
DAILY GIST gathered that the incident occurred on Saturday around, Osunlepo, Akede area of Osogbo, Osun State capital.
The student was said to have been set ablaze by some suspected cultists after he had been attacked with cutlass and bullets fired at him did not have any effect on him.
The student, it was gathered later rescued and taken to the hospital by some residents of the area where he was confirmed dead.
The Public Relations Officer of the university, Ademola Adesoji, in a statement issued and obtained by DAILY GIST on Tuesday called for the arrest of those who set the student ablaze.
The statement reads, “We noticed that Victor was absent for his final paper in the afternoon and decided to contact his parents. It was later discovered that he was attacked by unknown cultists in the early hours of Saturday.
“Victor was shouting that he would not join their cult group while they continued to hit him with cutlasses,
stones and an attempt to burn him was partially succeeding before he was eventually rescued.
“The university security unit is currently working with the police to ensure the culprits are exposed and brought to justice. The cultists must be arrested.”
The Spokesperson of the Osun State police command, SP Yemisi Opalola also confirmed the incident when contacted.
She said Victor was reportedly chased by suspected cultists to the area, macheted before they poured petrol on him and set him ablaze.
“The perpetrators will be arrested as our men have commenced investigations into the matter,” Opalola said
