The management of University of Calabar, UNICAL has reacted to the massive certificate fraud uncovered by the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC).
In a statement issued by the Pro-chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of University of UNICAL, DIG Udom Ekpoudom (retd), it alleged that some officials of the school are behind the massive certificate fraud uncovered by the National Youth Service Corps(NYSC).
DAILY GIST recalls that the NYSC had said about 101 graduates were fraudulently mobilised from the University of Calabar between the 2021 and 2023 service years.
NYSC described the development as a major crackdown on certificate fraud and a step towards ensuring the integrity of the national programme and preventing unqualified individuals from participating.
The Scheme said the certificates of National Service of those persons, have been invalidated, urging the public to confirm the authenticity of certificates presented by the National Directorate Headquarters of the NYSC.
However, Ekpoudom disclosed that the institution is conducting a thorough investigation to identify the staff responsible for the massive certificate fraud.
He added that any official found culpable would be sanctioned and severely dealt with.
“The NYSC has done very well to have uncovered this forgery.
This is just the first phase. The next phase is for us to find out those behind this saga.
“I can confirm that the people are not students of UNICAL. These guys are criminals,” he said.
