Popular American rapper, Michael Render, otherwise known as Killer Mike, was arrested at the Grammy Awards in handcuffs on Sunday night.
In a video circulating online, Chris Gardner, Mike was seen being escorted through http://Crypto.com Arena by police.
The Los Angeles Police Department in a post on X on Monday said the rapper was taken into custody because of a “physical altercation that occurred at the 700 block of Chick Hearn Court.
“The suspect was placed under arrest and was transported to LAPD Central Division .
“The suspect has been identified as 48-year-old Michael Render and booked for Misdemeanor Battery 243(A) PC, and is in the process of being released.”
Sunday night marked Killer Mike’s first Grammy Award wins since 2003 when he was first nominated and won for his feature on OutKast’s “The Whole World” in the Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group category.
Killer Mike swept all three categories he was nominated in: Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album for his self-titled 2023 studio album “Michael.”
“I’m a Black man in America, and as a kid I had a dream to become a part of music. And that nine-year-old is excitedly dancing inside of me right now,” he said in one of his acceptance speeches Sunday.
However, the rapper’s lawyer confirmed to Variety on Sunday evening that Killer Mike was released: “He’s out and will be celebrating his sweep tonight.
