Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, NPF in Ondo State have arrested three suspected kidnappers allegedly caught while sharing ransom money.
The arrested kidnappers, in a trending video obtained , were believed to be the abductors of Mr Omoniyi Eleyinmi, a staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
According to report, the suspects were apprehend by police detectives while sharing the N7 million ransom paid by the victim’s family members and members of the alumni of the institution inside a forest near Ago Panu, a village located between Oba Akoko and Owo.
The victim was rescued by police detectives after they tracked one of the telephones used by the suspects to negotiate the ransom.
Eleyinmi was abducted at his residence along the Akungba–Supare Akoko Road last Sunday and was released after an undisclosed ransom was paid.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest of the suspects, saying an investigation into the matter had begun while the money recovered from the suspects had been taken to the anti-kidnapping unit of the command.
He said, “I can confirm to you that our operatives arrested three suspected kidnappers in connection with the kidnapping of two AAUA staffers. The suspects are currently undergoing profiling and interrogation.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Police Command, Adebowale Lawal, has directed the suspects and all exhibit recovered to be transferred to the anti-kidnapping squad for discreet and thorough investigation.”
