A member of the National Youth Service Corps has been killed during a gun-duel between security operatives and Gunmen suspected to be bandits along Abuja-Kaduna expressway.
The corps member identified simply as Aliyu, who served in Abuja, was killed by a stray bullet from a crossfire between security officials and bandits along Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.
It was gathered that the bandits were engaged by the security officials while they attempted to cross the highway at Kasarami Village, Friday night.
The corps member, on a Kaduna-bound commercial vehicle, was reportedly hit on the head by the bullet.
A high-ranking police officer in the state who spoke on condition of anonymity said about seven bandits were killed during the crossfire.
According to him, the victim was hit by a stray bullet because there was a serious crossfire between the security agencies and the bandits that tried to cross the main road at Kasarami village which is a route they use. But the security men, among which were soldiers, at Rijana, engaged them and killed about seven of them and recovered motorcycles.
He added that the corper was rushed to Saint Gerald Hospital that night but was confirmed dead by the doctors.
The deceased was said to have been buried according to Islamic rites.
As of the time of filing this report, the police spokesperson had not been reachable.
