A filling station in Anambra state has reportedly sold water as fuel to motorists, sparking outrage from motorists on the ground and from social media users.

John Ikuwanusi, a Facebook user narrated how he paid for Petrol at Omemma Filling Station, Ogidi, Anambra State, on Friday but water was sold to him.

In a Facebook post, Ikuwanusi said he was stranded after spending a lot of money on fake petrol.

”The angry customer wrote: We are stranded on the road because we used our ₦13,000 to buy water instead of fuel from a petrol station here in Ogidi. Today is 18th March, 2022, he wrote.

In a video obtained by DAILY GIST on Saturday, co-travelers with Ikuwanusi could be heard lamenting how they had filled the car’s fuel tank with the fake petrol.

The video which has sparked reactions on social media shows the moment a customer opens up his tank to inspect the fuel only to find out that it has been diluted with water.

Nigerians in some states started experiencing fuel scarcity in February, shortly after adulterated petrol was imported into the country by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). There are concerns that the scarcity may have boosted the sale of poor quality fuel in the country.
