As the ‘Shine Ya Eyes’ edition of the BBNAIJA season six commenced on Saturday night, organisers of the show failed to read messages sent in by fans through the micro-blogging platform Twitter.
The move may have been part of measures put in place by organisers of the show to comply with the Federal Government’s ban on Twitter.
Many BBNaija fans who had used Virtual Private Network (VPN) applications to bypass restrictions to Twitter could not have their messages read during the opening ceremony of the show.
It has been revealed the possible reason why the organisers of Big Brother Naija, BBNaija Season 6 refused to air comments on Twitter.
DAILY GIST observed during the weekends that the host of the reality TV programme, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, only read comments from the BBNaija official Facebook page.
This is against the practice in previous editions where messages of fans were read mostly from Twitter handles.
In previous seasons, comments from viewers on Twitter about the show was aired at the bottom corner of the screen.
However, this Season 6 is different as DAILY GIST observed that only comments from Facebook by viewers are displayed on the screen.
It would be recalled that the Buhari-led administration on June 4 had banned Twitter, alleging the platform is capable of affecting co-existence of Nigeria.
The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) immediately directed all broadcasting stations to suspend using Twitter as anyone caught using the platform is unpatriotic.
The NBC said there would be penalties for the defaulters.
The fear of NBC shutting down its channel and show may be the reason for the compliance.
DAILY GIST equally observed that BBNaija has not tweeted via its official handle @BBNaija for the past one month.
It was gathered, the last tweet on the platform was on the 3rd of June, 2021.
This year’s edition of BBNaija which commence on Saturday, July 24th will run for 72 days and ends on October 3, 2021, DAILY GIST had reported.
Housemates are expected to battle for N90m worth of prizes as announced earlier by the organizes.
The housemates would spend 72 days in the Big Brother House while contesting against each other for the grand prize of N90m.
