Police Arrest, Arraign OAU Dropout For Stealing Students’ Phones, Power Bank On Campus

The police command in Osun State on Monday arraigned a 25-year-old dropout of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Aremu Quadril, at an Ile-Ife Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing phones and other items belonging to the students of the university.

Quadril was said to have dropped out of the institution but had been staying on the campus and attending classes with bonafide students with a view to stealing from them.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, said Quadril entered into the Zoology Department of OAU on November 15, 2021 around 5:00pm and stole Infinix Note 5, valued N85,000, property of one Adereti Bankole, a student of the institution.

The prosecutor stated further that the defendant, at the same time and place, did steal one power bank, valued N5,000, property of one Adegbesan Favour, another student of OAU.

Osanyintuyi noted that Quadril returned to the department on March 23, 2022 around 2:21pm with an intent to commit felony to with stealing.

He said the school dropout stole one iPhone X, valued N175,000, property of an OAU undergraduate, Adeolu Oluwaseyi.

He said the defendant committed offences contrary to and punishable under sections 390(9) and 413(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol II, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded not guilty to the four count-charge bothering on intent to commit felony and stealing.

However, Magistrate A. I. Oyebadejo, granted the bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Oyebadejo added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, while his addresses must be verified as well as submit three recent passport photographs each. He adjourned the case till March 30 for hearing.
