Super eagles sensational star, Victor Osimhen and his agent have threatened legal action against Napoli after a video mocking the striker was posted on the club’s official TikTok account for missing a penalty in the weekend’s goalless draw at Bologna.
The incident comes amid growing tension between the player and the club, after Osimhen was caught on camera berating coach Rudi Garcia following a substitution in the closing minutes of the 0-0 Serie A draw against Bologna.
The TikTok video showed Osimhen failing to score his spot-kick in the Serie A match with a high-pitched voice saying “gimme penalty please”, sparking a furious reaction from Roberto Calenda.
The video was subsequently pulled down by the club after heavy criticisms, particularly on social media.
“What happened today on Napoli’s official profile on the TikTok platform is not acceptable. A video mocking Victor was first made public and then, but now belatedly, deleted,” Calenda said on Twitter, now called X, late on Tuesday evening.
“(It is) A serious fact that causes very serious damage to the player and adds to the treatment that the boy is suffering in the last period between media trials and fake news.
“We reserve the right to take legal action and any useful initiative to protect Victor.”
A check by DAILY GIST on Osimhen’s Instagram account shows that the player has deleted all pictures related to his dealings and links with the Italian club from his Instagram account
Last season, Osimhen powered Napoli to their first Scudetto title in over three decades scoring a staggering 26 goals and finishing as the league’s top scorer.
However, the player has struggled for goals this season and in his club’s game against Bologna on Sunday, he missed a penalty with the game eventually ending in a 0-0 draw.
Napoli are seventh in Serie A, seven points behind league leaders Inter Milan after winning just two of their opening five domestic matches.
With the current row between him and the club, the player who was heavily linked with a move away from the club all through the just-concluded summer transfer window may just be making the move in January with many European clubs waiting in the wings for his services.
