Ogun Court Dismisses Charges Against Human Right Activist, Comrade Olusola

OLUSOLA ONAGUNWA was a former Lagos CDHR State Secretary and the NATIONAL PRESIDENT of Advocates in Defense of Human Rights, Justice and Culture coined as ADHURIC (founded by him in year 2020) with its National Secretariat at 56 Akarigbo Road Ita-Oba, Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Comrade Onagunwa has been a prominent and formidable activist in Lagos where he also run his school named SUCCEXGATE MODEL SCHOOL and SUCCEXGATE TUTORIAL CENTRE at Alakuko, Lagos.

At a point, he decided to relocate the Headquarters of ADHURIC from Lagos to Ogun State in order to support the developmental efforts of the State government and also to defend the fundamental rights of the residents of the Gateway State.

Since August 2022 when ADHURIC fully moved to Sagamu, Ogun State quite fantastic works are being done to emancipate the poor masses from exploitation and oppressions by the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force and other wicked institutions and persons. This has brought huge relieve to the residents (both indigene and non-indigene of the State) of Remo community with more than Fifty, 50, adjourning towns/villages.

This does not sit down well with the police authority and other unscrupulous persons.

Certain traditional monarchs had been checked for over-reaching their bound and exercising powers not given to them by the Law.

Defiant landlords and wicked tenants had been restrained from perpetrating unlawful acts; being enjoined to abide by the dictates of the TENANCY LAW of Ogun State.

Transport Unions had been curtailed from becoming law into themselves: beating drivers with caning sticks and punching blows on the road to collect illegal fees thereby adding to the suffering of the residents with increased costs of living. In February 2025, a massive protest was led by Comrade Onagunwa against TORAN, ROMO and TWORA unions for the Tricycle Owners and Riders. More than Eighty-six, 86, documented Tricycle Owners/Riders enlisted with ADHURIC for the protest with their Marwa in parade/convoy. The convoy moved in train from Ita-Oba Sagamu through Sabo to Ita-merin to Express junction to Isale-oko to Ikeene Remo LGA before the sitting DPO, CSP Oladipupo Awe stopped the moving train of Marwa’s in an amazing peaceful protest. It was well coordinated to the extent that efforts made by the union leaders and their stooges to disrupt the protest and attacking the protesters were curtailed and ignored. They were all captured by cameras. Efforts to jail the attackers after the protest on petition to the police were frustrated by the police in connivance with few persons from the Marwa riders!

Victims of Factory Accidents thrown out in the cold by the Chinese, Indian, Lebanese, Nigerian-owned companies have found solace in ADHURIC fighting for them and securing Compensation on their behalf. Some of them were sent out of the Company Hostels when they dare challenge their slavery treatment. ADHURIC house them temporarily to get justice.

Police officers had also been defended and justice secured for them by ADHURIC, despite making themselves our enemies!

Many marriages had been mended and the welfare of the children safeguarded by ADHURIC in partnership with the Zonal Welfare Office in Sagamu and other parts of Ogun State.

Police officers has been petitioned repeatedly to their higher hierarchy over diverse unlawful practices including but not limited to bribe-taking, exploitation, malicious prosecutions, victimisation and all sorts. Though the authority are not yet seen to be addressing the numerous petitions to the Area Commands Headquarters, State Police Command, AIG ZONE II Command and the Force Headquarters.

The delay or say refusal, in addressing these pending complaints against men and officers of the Force emboldened their illegality and unlawful acts.

ADHURIC has repeatedly protected the female folks: girls and women from all forms of sexual abuses. Across the length and breadth of the State are ongoing Court cases against persons who sexually harassed, sexually assaulted, abducted, defiled and rape the feminine gender. We only hope the Court and the Ministry of Justice would not sleep and allow these offenders to escape justice.

A number of attempts had been made on the life of Comrade Olusola Onagunwa by the police. At a time, one CSP Asogwa of Sagamu Area Command openly threatened to kill the activist in seven, 7, days only for him to be crushed under a moving long vehicle (trailer) within the same time frame under ACP Ebenezer Ojugbele’s regime. One Inspector Wisdom of Iperu Remo Police Division at another time also threatened to shoot the Activist only that his gun failed him at the instant! Few weeks ago, the Activist was again assaulted at Isara Remo Police Division when he dared to defend the rights of female studentsof Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade who came under abuse, assault and dehumanization of their influential landlord.

For long, Comrade Onagunwa had been repeatedly assaulted by DPO of Sakora Police Division, Ayepe Road Sagamu and others with no consequences despite many petitions written in that regard.

Recently, a lady of about Twenty-five years and a mother of One child and a friend of the Activist was incited to rope the Activist into a crime. At first, it was claimed by the police that the lady was IMPREGNATED by the Activist. When the Lawyer to the Activist, Comrade UMORU, queried the jurisdiction of the police in the issue of private adult affairs, the police changed the offense to RAPE. And when they could not sustained their ploy to nail the Activist, they changed his offense into ABDUCTION as alleged by ASP Momoh, the Crime officer of Sagamu Police Division, Sagamu. Soon, the offense got modified into UNLAWFUL ASSAULT of an imbecile.

It was the UNLAWFUL ASSAULT in Section 484 of the Criminal Code of Ogun State that was used to arraign Comrade Olusola Onagunwa in Suit No. MSH/405c/2025 in Magistrate Court-1 before the Honourable Chief Magistrate of Sagamu Magistrate Court yesterday Friday 15/8/2025.

Comrade Onagunwa was detained in the afternoon of Thursday 14 August 2025 and slept in the Sagamu Police Division cell where he was denied basic rights meant for Suspect under the Police Act including refusal to afford him to make use of toilet facility in the cell and others before he was hurriedly charge to Court when the Team Leader of the Investigation popularly called “Grandma” deceived Barr Umoru to go after pursuing peace with the family of the Complainant.

On the Chief Magistrate’s preliminary probe of the charge, all lies and falsehood cooked together and wrapped into Miss TEMITOPE FAFIYEBI to nail the Activist for a phantom crime all fell like a pack of cards. The Court was bold and assertive to strike out the charge as non-existent and fabricated, null and void!

Thanks to Ogun State judiciary for stand tall when it matters to do justice.

It was this dramatic and memorable feat that gave rise to the following text sent yesterday by the Activist to Comrade FEMI FALANA SAN and others:

“Comr Umoru T.I. Esq is representating me -07065702465. I need your office to shield me against persistent persecutions by Ogun State Police Command & its DPO’s. TODAY I was arraigned at Mag Court-1 Sagamu on fabricated charges in MSH/405c/2025.

The charges were immediately struck out by the Court!

Leaving the Court, attempt was made to re-arrest me by Inspector Toyin of Sagamu Police Division, ASP Edobor of Area Command Hqtrs, and another elderly officer of Sagamu Police Division within the Court premises.

In the process of dragging and assaulting me, my clothes and pant were torn; throwing me naked in the open with some court attendees video recording….

UMORU resisted my unlawful arrest.

I was being drawn, dragged and assaulted by the police from my lawyer leading to tearing of my clothes.

Chief Magistrate intervened and scolded the police, sending them out of the Court premises. As at now, I am in the court while they LAY AMBUSH AROUND TO RE-ARREST ME. Maybe you help call the CP. Tnx
