Assistant Commissioner of Police, Daniel Amah, popularly known for his refusal of a $200,000 bribe, has changed his religion.
He officially embraced Islam in a ceremony held at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
The event, which took place on Tuesday, saw Amah welcomed into the faith and adopting Muhammad as his new name.
During the ceremony, the Emir of Kano spoke in Hausa, offering advice to Amah on his new spiritual journey. “I urge you to seek Islamic knowledge and diligently observe the five pillars of Islam: belief in Allah, the five daily prayers, fasting during Ramadan, pilgrimage to Mecca, and Zakat,” the Emir said.
He further prayed for Allah’s guidance, wishing Amah success in becoming one of the best Muslims.
The Emir also offered counsel on the importance of maintaining good character, emphasizing the need to respect and obey his parents, regardless of their religious views.
Amah’s reputation for integrity was solidified in April 2022 when, as the Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, he rejected a $200,000 bribe offered by armed robbery suspects. The suspects had stolen over N300 million, and the prime suspect, Ali Zaki, had orchestrated the robbery of a Bureau De Change operator carrying $750,000.
In recognition of his honesty, the Police Service Commission promoted Amah from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 10, 2022.
Additionally, Amah was honored with the 2022 Public Service Integrity Award by former President Muhammadu Buhari, following a recommendation from Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission.
