Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force in Ogun state have engaged suspected kidnappers in fierce gun-duel.
The Command revealed that its operatives overpowered two out of a 6-member kidnapping group adding that effort is ongoing to arrest the other 4 members of the gang.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, made this known in a statement via its X handle on Tuesday, May 7.
The statement reads: “The manager of Breeze Company Nig limited located at Ibadan-Lagos expressway made a disrespect call to the DPO of Mowe Divisional Headquarters that on 3rd of May 2024, while his principals numbering about 16 were returning to their residence at Kajola junction, a gang of Kidnappers opened gunfire into the two Toyota buses with that was conveying them. In response, the police Mobile escort attached to the first bus exchanged fire vehicle, while three Indian Nationals, all inside the second bus without police escort, were all kidnapped to an unknown destination. The Anti-kidnapping section of the Command in concert with Police formations in th4 axis with other local security agents swung into action by combing the Area, policemen engaged the Kidnappers in a fierce gun battle confronting the Kidnappers in the forest along Benin-Sagamu papalanto at about 1630hrs on 7th May, 2024, and succeed in the rescue of the victims unhurt.
“The course of the encounter, two of the 6 Kidnappers were demobilised, two AK 47 riffles, one single barrel locally made gun, on2 sword, cell phone and criminal charms and 65 rounds of ammunition were also recovered. The likely ransome loot of the two demobilised Kidnappers of the sum of Seven million nine hundred thousand naira and one thousand five hundred Rupees of (Indian Currency) were also recovered. The two demobilised suspects have been deposited at the Mortuary, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other 4 fleeing members of the Kidnap gang.”
