A Nigerian man, Sadiq Idrissu, has reportedly shot dead his mother over alleged witchcraft in Adamawa State.
30-year-old Sadiq of Boga village in the Gombi Local Government Area of the state reportedly opened fire on his biological mother on December 5, 2023, killing her instantly.
Idrissu, who later admitted to killing his mother, said he did not regret killing her; instead, he sympathised with his father for marrying and staying with her for so long.
“I killed my mother because she appeared to me as a witch. People have been accusing her of witchcraft for about two years. It is true because something kept frightening me, especially at night,” he said.
He narrated that on the night he killed his mother, he had earlier gone to their family house and could not find her in the room.
Idrissu said he only found his sister sleeping, explaining that his mother must have gone to practise witchcraft.
The spokesperson for the state police command, SP Suleiman Nguroje confirmed that the suspect murdered his mother over the alleged witchcraft.
“The Commissioner of Police, Afolabi Babatola, has directed that the matter be transferred to the CID for discreet investigation and prosecution,” Nguroje said.
