The Nigerian Police Force, NPF in Bayelsa State has arrested a woman, Ogechi Gift Okechukwu, and a doctor from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, for allegedly defrauding the public through a fraudulent appeal of funds for a surgery.
The command’s spokesperson, ASP Musa Muhammed, confirmed the arrests on Monday.
Ogechi and the doctor were reported to have conspired to deceive unsuspecting individuals by falsely claiming she needed financial assistance for surgery.
The story was shared by a Facebook user, Princess Olachi Francis.
Francis reported that the lady had claimed she needed money for surgery and people contributed for her.
However, it was later found to be fake.
Sharing photos, Francis wrote: “A woman identified as Ogechi Okechukwu has been arrested for allegedly collaborating with a doctor to defraud people on Facebook by falsely claiming she needed money for surgery.
Popular Facebook influencer. Uwaoma Susan Joseph unknowingly helped raise thousands of naira for Ogechi, believing her appeal was genuine. However, investigations later revealed that the entire plea was a scam.
Ogechi, who resides in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, was apprehended after incriminating evidence of her conversations with the doctor was uncovered on her phone.
She is currently in detention as authorities continue their investigation into the fraudulent scheme.”
