A Nigerian Army officer, Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a medical doctor by training, has been set on fire and killed by his wife.
Haruna got into an argument with his wife at Wellington Bassey Barracks in Ibagwa, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, and things escalated rapidly.
According to a security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, the tragic incident happened on September 22, 2025.
Lt. Haruna, who served as the Regimental Medical Officer with the 6 Battalion, got into an altercation over a matter that is yet to be ascertained.
The couple exchanged hot words that led to Mrs Samson Haruna dousing her husband with petrol (PMS) and setting him on fire.
The officer was rescued and was given immediate medical attention at the Military Reference Section within the barracks.
He was later transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital for more advanced care.
Unfortunately, Lt. Haruna did not make it, owing to the severity of the burns he sustained.
Mrs Haruna was promptly arrested and is currently in custody, with ongoing investigations into the incident.
Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Onyechi Appolonia Anele, was not immediately available for comments.
