October 1st marks the Independence day in Nigeria. This day is set aside every year to celebrate Nigeria’s achievements so far since 1960.

Over two decades, citizens have witnessed so much decline in different aspects and sectors of Nigeria that left many to question if really we have gotten independence or are we still in-dependence?

We were expecting to see the good tidings that brought Nigeria on the Independence Day thus far but guess what we heard from President Buhari speech, He said Saudi Arabia is selling her PMS at 168/L, that it will be economic suicidal for Nigeria to sell hers below 168/L. Even some Politicians especially the oppositional party PDP slammed Mr Buhari for comparing Nigeria with Saudi Arabia on petrol price.

Nigeria has her minimum wage at N30,000 (of which not all sectors are willing to pay) while the compared country Saudi Arabia kept her minimum wage times ten to ours.

A day like Independence day, when we all are expecting to know the way forward for the country. Among other things that ushered nigerans into this includes the protest from #revolutionnow at Maryland Lagos State in which a journalist was assaulted and injured by a police officer while 30 others were arrested because they demonstrated harmlessly their dissatisfaction with the various activities/policies in the country.

Intellectuals cum political elites fought supposedly for an independence but the result of those struggles are now only acted on media, a tool used by political office holders to force down our throats their own version of in-dependence.

An in-dependent country that is supposed to celebrate her independence is experiencing anarchy from her four cardinal points where nothing is left to say about the center.

In the North, ravaging Issues include insurgencies, IDPs, Boko Haram,Bandits.

In the South, agitations upon agitations. Misappropriations upon misappropriations.

In the East, secession and marginalisation. And in the West, Constitutional insecurity and restructuring.

it’s no longer news in this country that whether you speak or do not speak about the wrong dealings here. When the time of reckoning comes, all of us will still take our various portion of the blame. Now choose the type of reckoning you will wish for.

Arise O compatriots and take your country. Whether it will disintegrate or not, let it be that we all really participated on that decision of deciding our destiny. Speak now when you still have the voice. Show interest in Nigeria politics. Take into account the difference at in-dependence and independence
