The General Overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare has reacted to the death of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as MohBad.
Speaking at a church event in Leicester, UK, on Sunday September 24, Pastor Bakare alleged that late MohBad was associating with evil people while he was alive.
According to the cleric, Mohbad reaped what he sowed.
The pastor emphasized that the late singer’s death was a reward of his actions while alive.
While speaking on the theme, ‘Harvest’, Bakare said: “My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know MohBad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? MohBad.
“When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth.
“I am not blaming him, I am just telling you. Is MohBad a good name? MohBad,” he said
“There was a young man older than I am. He was a driver and his nickname was Eshu (devil). Everywhere he went, people hailed him as Eshu and he will acknowledge them”.
“The day he crashed the car and he killed people and they threw him behind jail when he was brought out, he said ‘Mee Sheshu Mee Shushu’ (I Am not the devil)”.
However, many Nigerians have slammed the Pastor for his criticisms and comments regarding the late singer.
Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh and Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode also cautioned the cleric.
Reacting via her verified Instagram page on Monday, Dikeh offered advice to the pastor, suggesting that he should concentrate on preaching the gospel or remain silent if he has nothing meaningful to convey.
She said “Dear pastor Tunde, @thetbakareiknow, When your colleagues are caught with their pants down in unholy sexual activities, we never hear your voice, you never speak nor preach about them.
“It comes to the death of a boy who is old enough to be your last born and you say “HE REAPED THE REWARD OF HIS ACTIONS. What Actions? Please please please KEEP THE SAME ENERGY with your corrupted colleagues as you just did today.”
She pointed out that the only reason she refrained from losing her temper with the pastor was the anointing on his head.
“It’s the anointing of God upon your head that’s making me not go off on this LOSSE COMMENT OF YOURS.
“I have learnt over the years that if you have nothing nice to say, Keep mute (DONT TALK AT ALL)
“Preach your gospel and leave mohbads name out of your ministration. I don’t respect old age, I respect the wisdom you exhibit at old age,” she said
In his reaction via X on Monday, Fani-Kayode told Bakare that every human has the right to lead the kind of life they want, and should not be judged by the kind of company of friends they keep.
The former minister did not mention Bakare’s name but merged his picture with the late 27-year-old singer’s image, stressing that the clergyman was supposed to be asking the right question of those who killed him.
“Whether the unfortunate young man known as Mohbad was good or bad and whether he associated with evil men or not he surely did not deserve to be murdered,” Fani-Kayode wrote.
“Everyone has the right to life regardless of the friends they keep, their lifestyle, their name, or the color they dye their hair. Assuming he was murdered, rather than judge him shouldn’t we be trying to find out who killed him?”
Meanwhile, Nigerians and fans of late MohBad are awaiting the result of the autopsy conducted on his body by a team of forensic pathologists in Lagos last week.
