A 40-year-old broadcaster, Uche Igwe, who shared the video of a 10-year- old Chrisland School student, who engaged in sexual intercourse, on Twitter, was on Monday, May 9, brought before a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

Igwe, who lives at No. 14 Ogundare Street in the Ikorodu region of Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of cyberstalking and breach of peace.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Mr Augustine Nwabuisi, a prosecutor with the State Criminal Investigation Department Panti, informed the court that the defendant committed the crimes on April 18 using the Twitter application.

He said that the defendant transmitted a video of a 10-year-old girl pupil in Dubai engaging in sexual intercourse with another student to the application on purpose.

The defendant shared the video on the internet without the authorization of the student’s parents or the school using his own Twitter handle, @uchedark, according to Nwabuisi.

Breach of peace in punishable with three months’ jail term under Section 168 (d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Mrs Adeola Adedayo, the Chief Magistrate, granted the defendant bail in the amount of N10 million with three sureties in the same amount.

The sureties must present their National Identification Numbers as well as their Lagos State Residents Registration Agency cards, according to Adedayo.

She also stipulated that one of the sureties must be a landowner, and that all of the sureties must live within the jurisdiction of the court.

The sureties must be gainfully employed and have proof of three years of tax payments to the Lagos State Government, according to Adedayo.

She adjourned the case until June 13 for mention.
