The newly debuted controversial movie, ‘Oko Iyabo’ produced by Yoruba actor, Yomi Fabiyi has received serious criticisms and backlash from social media users.

The Nollywood actor, Yomi Fabiyi who has solely been one of the few who has supported Baba Ijesha amidst the rape saga decided to make a movie titled “Oko Iyabo” which is said to be a direct replicate of the incident that is presently happening.

The title of the movie alone suggested that Yomi Fabiyi‘s intention maybe to bully Iyabo Ojo.

Yomi Fabiyi, on Sunday, July 4th announced on his Instagram that the movie, which he shared excerpts from it is out.

Oko Iyabo’ since its release, has sparked a lot of controversies, edging from child molestation to mockery of an ongoing court trial.

Recall that Yomi Fabiyi, had promise to release a movie based on the rape allegation levelled against his embattled colleague and close friend, Omiyinka Olanrewaju (Baba Ijesha).

The actor had earlier revealed that the film which would give an insight into the circumstances surrounding Omiyinka Olanrewaju’s (Baba Ijesha) alleged rape mess.

The film, directed by Dele Matti, featured several Yoruba movie stars including Antar Laniyan, Lateef Adedimeji, Adewale Elesho and Lola Idije.

In the said movie, Yomi Fabiyi made use of real names of those involved in Olanrewaju Omiyinka’s case (Baba Ijesha-the accused, Princess- the foster mother and Iyabo Ojo- the whistleblower).

He is also reportedly making it look like the minor was having an affair with Baba Ijesha who is now facing trial for child molestation and sexual abuse.

Recall that Baba Ijesha, was arrested a couple of months ago for allegedly defiling a minor and is facing charges in court for rape and child sexual molestation.

This movie has elicited heated criticisms and disapproval from social media users.

Several of his colleagues in Nollywood has blasted him for being insensitive and immature to have decided to release such a movie at this present time.

Dayo Amusa, Tonto Dikeh, Mercy Aigbe, and many others have also lashed out at Yomi to have proven how insensitive he is and for also having the effrontery to promote the movie by sending the link to them.

Many other Nigerians have also lambasted Yomi Fabiyi for creating such a movie and for using the names ‘Princess’ and ‘Iyabo’ to depict the real-life situation.

The film promptly spark serious outrage on social media after it was released on YouTube. Many social media canvassed for the film to be reported. And the film was removed from YouTube barely 24 hours after it premiered.

When DAILY GIST watched the movie on Tuesday, it was observed that one of the scenes in the movie was an exact recreation of the viral CCTV video footage that landed Baba Ijesha in serious trouble.

In the movie, Baba Ijesha was portrayed as being innocent of the charges against him.

Recall that the commedianne, Princess, who accused Baba Ijesha of raping her 14-year-old foster daughter, released a CCTV footage showing the moment Baba Ijesha was allegedly caught sexually harrasing the teenager & also confessing to the crime.

In Fabiyi’s movie, a teen actress could be seen making the first move on the actor. It also portrayed Baba Ijesha as a victim of a carefully orchestrated ploy by his close friend.

TAMPAN Reacts

Theatre Arts and Motion Picture Practitioners’ Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has summoned Yomi Fabiyi over his latest movie ‘Oko Iyabo’. TAMPAN said the invitation is due to the public outrage that followed the movie.

Fabiyi is to appear before TAMPAN on Thursday, 11th of July, 2021

TAMPAN’s statement read; “The TAMPAN Committee on Ethics, Conflict and Resolution wishes to inform the general public that the association has summoned Mr. Yomi Fabiyi who is the Producer/Director of the controversial film titled “OKO IYABO” to appear before it on Thursday 11th July 2021.

“This invitation becomes very necessary because of the controversy that the subject matter of his film has generated which is against our ethic and virtue.

“Despite that, we realize that the film has sparked off another round of dissension between TAMPAN and the public; this is unacceptable to us and unsuitable to what we represent.

“We hereby implore the general public and the parties concerned to please exercise patience as our eminent association is on top of this issue and will certainly ensure fairness and justice.”

Yomi Fabiyi Addresses Controversy

Nigerian actor Yomi Fabiyi while addressing the controversial film “Oko Iyabo” said the movie was meant to correct child abuse as opposed to critics’ claims that he was cashing in and making light of the matter.

The film promptly spark outrage on social media after it was released on YouTube. Many social media canvassed for the film to be reported. And the film was removed from YouTube barely 24 hours after it premiered.

“I have ask they PULL or PRIVATE the movie for the sake of peace,” Fabiyi wrote on his Instagram story addressing the concerns around the film.

He added that the film which critics claimed made a mockery if the victim, was actually meant to “correct” the child abuse and assault: “The movie is however to correct CHILD ABUSE, ASSAULT, HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSE AND OTHER VICES and to state clearly I am not what they claim I am initially. Don’t rush on any negative narrative guys. I am human but will never down play the real issues that concerns children. It is just an expression and I respect polite and superior arguments or opinion. Thank you lovelies
