The management of Obafemi Awolowo University ile-ife has justified why it ordered some group of students to leave campus.

The management in a statement made available to DAILY GIST on Friday had ordered the first group of students who resumed on March 8th for the practical aspect of their courses to leave the campus after 26th of March, 2021 in their own interest

The unexpected development though generated reactions among hostelite students with many lamenting that they can’t afford to start moving back their loads to off campus again as exam time drums closer

However, the management through its spokeperson, Abiodun Olarenwaju while speaking with DAILY GIST on the development noted that the order was for students’ safety on campus amidst COVID-19 pandemic ravaging the country

He disclosed that the management is preventing any form of congestion in hostels and any other areas on campus that students reside.

He noted that OAU is a public and federal government owned institution and therefore must comply with the guidelines released by the federal government on safe reopening.

Abiodun revealed that the management is trying all his best to avoid a situation where the federal government will use OAU as a scape goat adding that government officials in the education ministry could visit the school any time to monitor the compliance of students and staffs on COVID-19 guidelines

On whether the semester examination mode of conduct would be physical or online, the institution’s registrar, Mrs Omosule confidently told DAILY GIST that it’s physical. She however revealed that the mode of conduct for elective courses is not certain yet. She hinted that it could be physical or online
