President Bola Tinubu has appointed Olayemi Cardoso, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as the chairman of the monetary policy committee(MPC).
Tinubu also appointed Dr. Kelechi Ohiri for appointment as the Director-General of the National Health Insurance Authority.
The President also sought the approval of the Senate to appoint Yomi Fasua as the Commissioner, National Population Commission
Tinubu in a letter forwarded to Nigerian Senate On Wednesday asked the senators to confirm the appointments.
Thr letter was read by Senate President, Godswill Akpabio on the floor of the red chamber on Wednesday.
The president also named Mohammed Sani Abdullahi, Bala Bello, Emem Usoro, and Philip Ikeazor, deputy governors of the apex bank, as members of the committee.
The newly constituted MPC will hold its first policy meeting under Cardoso, between February 26 and 27.
The President said: “In accordance with the provisions of section 12 of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Act of 2007, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the senate, the appointments of the underlisted 12 persons as chair and members of the monetary policy committee (MPC) of the CBN.”
Other members of the MPC appointed by Tinubu are Lamido Yuguda, director-general of Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC); Jibia Shehu, permanent secretary of the ministry of finance; Murtala Sabo; Uche Wogu; Maureen Agu; Mustapha Akinwumi; and Bamidele Omo.
Akpabio referred the president’s request to the senate committee on banking for further legislative input.
