President Bola Tinubu has appointed Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the special adviser on political matters in the office of the vice president, Kashim Shettima.
Mr Baba-Ahmed, the spokesman of the Northern Elders Forum disclosed this in a post on his personal X handle on Monday.
The elder statesman, who confirmed accepting the appointment, noted that this is not the time to sit on the fence and complain.
He is an elder brother to the vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 presidential election, Datti Baba-Ahmed.
He has been a strong critic of the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration over the years.
“It is time to make it public that I have accepted the call to serve as Special Adviser [Political] to the VP, @KShettima. This is not the time for fence-sitting or criticism when you can be useful in turning the country round. I am honoured and humbled. Please pray for me and Nigeria,” he wrote.
Mr Baba-Ahmed, a retired federal permanent secretary, has previously served as the national secretary of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and chief of staff to former Senate President Bukola Saraki
