Impeached Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Bilyaminu Ismail holds extraordinary plenary with only eight members amid tight security.
The 17 lawmakers who impeached Speaker Ismail last week to elect Bashar Aliyu Gummi as the new Speaker and adjourned the Assembly indefinitely were however, absent at the proceeding.
The state lawmakers who were present at the extraordinary plenary described the action of majority of their colleagues as unlawful, and illegal and blamed saboteurs as responsible for the impeachment.
They are calling for the suspension of the 17 lawmakers, saying that their action has a political undertone and not the issue of insecurity as they had claimed.
The eight members are accusing the 17 members of the House of Assembly of collecting money from someone to carry out the purported impeachment.
DAILY GIST reported that the 18 out of 24 members unanimously agreed to impeach the speaker during an emergency meeting held on Thursday night
According to them, the Impeached was sequel to security challenges affecting the state without any attempt by the House to stop the menace.
