The former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller has resigned from Accord Party to join the People’s Democratic Party, PDP
Oyo PDP Acting Publicity Secretary, Mr Michael Ogunsina disclosed this in a statement made available to Reporters on Wednesday.
According to him, Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde will lead other PDP leaders in Oyo State on Thursday to welcome Shina into the Party.
He said the defectors will be received at a mega rally slated for 10am at Ojude Oba Iseyin.
DAILY GIST reports that Shina’s decision to join the PDP may not be unconnected to 2027 general elections.
On June 17, the lawmaker, who had represented lseyin/ltesiwaju/Kajola/lwajowa federal constituency, resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Citing reasons for dumping the APC, he said the party’s style of democracy “kills my conscience”, adding that he has realised that youths will continue to be at the mercy of the few at the top.
Giving reasons why he had joined Accord Party, the former lawmaker said the party is the first to zone Oyo north senatorial ticket to Oke Ogun because the Ogbomoso zone has done two terms.
However, the PDP on Wednesday has now announced the defection of Shina from Accord into the party.
The statement reads; “It is with joy in my heart and in the interest of our party that I announce that Hon. Shina Peller will be joining our party in a mega rally slated for Thursday 29th of February 2024 by 10am at Ojúde Ọba, Iseyin.
“Governor Seyi Makinde has made the PDP in Oyo State a bride to behold and his good works as the Governor of Oyo State has been the unique selling point for our party
“Hon. Shina Peller’s decamping into our party is the first of many this season.
“We encourage all our party members in Oyo North to turn up massively for the rally and receive Hon. Shina Peller in the PDP way.”
